About us

Well, this is us. Carlo & Julia, the founders of Surabaya Gourmet. 

Every day, you are surrounded by so many highly photo-shopped and beautifully edited photos, like photo editorials in magazines, perfect pre-wedding photos at your friend's wedding, cute selfies on instagram. So we decided to show you a completely unedited and real photo of us, taken with a bad camera under bad light. Please don't run away. 

We are two very different people: one extrovert (Carlo), the other introvert (Julia), one nerd (Julia), the other too-confident-to-be-nerd (Carlo), one tanned (Carlo), the other pucet (Julia). But we are both quite crazy. And we love food.

Surabaya Gourmet is the result of our cross-cultural love story (and also the result of Julia’s boredom in Surabaya).

Carlo is from Surabaya, he is Chinese on the outside and Indonesian at heart. He is more gourmand than gourmet as he eats anything (and in big quantities if possible).

Julia comes from a village in Austria (a small country in Europe, not to be confused with Australia) and is very picky when it comes to food. She is part-time vegetarian and has a very sweet tooth.

We created this blog together but it’s Julia who writes the blog posts (because Carlo is too lazy).

We have many talents but taking good photos is not one of them (as you may already have guessed). We are trying to improve, in the meantime you have to put up with our bad iPhone pictures :-P .
