I’m sure all of you know Libby –
they have a few small shops throughout Surabaya and are famous for their
brownies (this is what I was told). But have you been at their café yet?
In my home country, we love to have
a really big breakfast on weekends and often go to a small café for breakfast
or brunch. We even have an old saying that goes something like this:
Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper.
(This old wisdom still seems to be
up-to-date considering the health advice that suggests you to eat only a small
meal for dinner)
Anyways, I was missing having
breakfast outside so we went to Libby café in Sukomanunggal area. The interior
design of the café is nice, with a slight vintage touch, and the atmosphere is
cozy. What we really liked is their small yard outside – me because I love
being outside in the morning and enjoy the brightness before it gets too hot,
and Carlo because the small yard is also the smoking area (bad, bad habit).
They have a few breakfast options
and Carlo chose the American breakfast. It consists of toast, egg, baked beans,
sausage, mushrooms and salad. It was nothing that would knock your taste buds
off but still good. The toast was
special as it was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Carlo’s
brother N. had the Fettuccini with mushroom and beef which seemed to be like
fettuccini aglio olio. I wanted to satisfy my sweet tooth so I chose the Apple
crumble toast (35k). It is toast topped with apples, A LOT of raisins and
crumble and served with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. The whipped cream
seemed artificial to me (it was that kind of ready-to-eat whipped cream that
you can buy in something like a spray can, this is not original whipped cream
and quite low quality). The toast was super sweet but it was delicious! For
drinks, we had Ice dark mocha coffee and Green tea latte. The coffee was
average, the green tea latte was great and very, very filling.
We were super full after eating at
Libby Café so we didn’t again until afternoon (even though we went swimming
after breakfast). It was not like the breakfast we had in mind, but the food
was good value for money and the place is nice! If you want to read more about
Libby café, check out the review on Haphap.
Have you tried Libby Café yet? And
are Libby brownies really that good (I haven’t tried them yet)?
Please let me know in the comments
below and feel free to comment in bahasa (it will help me improve) :-)
Conclusion: Cozy place to hang out and enjoy tea (coffee) time with your friends.
Good to know:
Vegetarian options available. Order and pay at the cashier.
